How to Be Saved

The gospel is the good news about how God saves sinners from His own wrath and the threat of everlasting punishment in hell through faith in Jesus Christ, His Son. The gospel is simple, yet profound and powerful. If you are unsaved or unsure about where you stand with God, please prayerfully read the ABC’s of becoming a Christian.

  1. ADMIT
Admit that you are a sinner and deserve the full force of God’s wrath.

    • Romans 3:23: “All have sinned, and have come short of the glory of God.” The word “sin” means to fall short of God’s perfect standard. Every person in the world is guilty of this charge.
    • According to Romans 1:18, sinners are under the wrath of God which means that because of sin every person is born separated from God and under the threat of everlasting punishment in hell.
  2. BELIEVE
Believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

    • The Gospel is the “Good News” recorded in the Bible of how God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to save (rescue or deliver) sinners!
      • Romans 1:16 — “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”
      • 1 Timothy 1:15 — “It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”
    • The Bible makes it abundantly clear that no one can be saved by good works. Faith in Jesus Christ alone is what saves us from God’s wrath.
      • Titus 3:5 — God saves people “not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy…”
      • Ephesians 2:8 — “For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God and not of works lest any man boasts.”
  3. CALL
God invites sinners to call upon Him in prayer believing that He will save them.

    • “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile– the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9-13)
It is God’s desire to save people from the awful penalty of sin. Are you willing to accept His offer of grace today by taking these three simple steps of faith? If so, why not take a moment to speak to God in prayer right now? He will hear you and will save you the second you ask, but you must be sincere. Here is a sample of the kind of prayer you should pray:

“Dear God,

I ADMIT that I am a sinner in need of your forgiveness. Please have mercy upon me and save me today. I BELIEVE You sent Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for me on the cross of Calvary, and that His blood can cleanse me of all sin. I CALL to you now in faith, and ask your forgiveness and cleansing. Thank you dear God for hearing and answering my prayer, for I pray in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. Amen.”
